In 1976, I went along the hall in the building I officed in on Katy Freeway to talk to Ricardo Villarreal who had just opened his new office ,”Villarreal Bookkeeping & Tax”. The CPA firm I had been using for this kind of work was slow and a bit expensive and I was looking for something more responsive for the modest accounting and tax work I had to get done. It was the start of a business connection that has gone on to this day, for more than forty years, through the booms and busts in the Houston economy.

Ricardo helped me with accounts and tax returns, personal and corporate. Then I had to figure out what to do with an IRS audit and he successfully guided me through that – was ultimately nothing to worry about. Most of the time it was normal personal and corporate returns for my small business but when the need arose, he prepared information and testified in a difficult divorce. In 1986 in the depth of the oil bust, a trading company I had with an overseas partner went defunct with a payroll tax liability outstanding. Again Ricardo helped me through that, negotiating with the IRS and all was sorted our without bankruptcy.

In better times the annual routines continued with 1120 and 1040 returns. In recent years Ricardo’s daughter took more and more of a role in the firm which had moved to its own modest building where they operate today. It turned out she was equally thorough and thought things out, linking with specialists when needed, such as in a foreign transfer reporting situation I had. It was straightforward to me but was the kind of thing that the IRS had been paying a lot more attention to in recent years and had special reporting protocols. She worked her way through the proper reporting, employing a large business law firm in Houston where needed.

The annual tax returns are more routine now and always very carefully and professionally handled, with good questioning to make sure all the right documents are there and we can claim all we can within the rules.

Losing Ricardo Villarreal in 2018 was a big loss and yet am happy to hear his business lives on, continuing under Venesa Pamuk’s guidance to serve small businesses and individuals like me.

My family worked with Ricardo Villarreal Bookkeeping and Tax Services for over 30 years.  We began with Mr. Villarreal doing bookkeeping and tax services for Mounger and Campbell, Attorneys at Law.  I continued working with Mr. Villarreal for my personal tax returns and the tax returns for my solo law practice. Once Mr. Villarreal’s daughter, Venesa Pamuk, joined his company, she took over my account and I have since continued working with her.  Several years ago, I became the trustee for two Special Needs Trusts and approached Venesa about preparing the tax returns for these trusts.  I have always felt comfortable that Venesa knew the applicable tax law or would find it.

She is extremely thorough and most of all intelligent, you cannot ask for a better combination when someone is handling your taxes.  Venesa is always up to date with any new rules or laws, which have passed, and ensures I am able to maximize my deductions without crossing any lines. Our family business, A&J Lath and Plastering, Inc., began working with Mr. Ricardo Villarreal in 1985. He handled all of our financial and accounting needs. Our family established trust with the Villarreal family as they provided much needed service and guidance. Our business transitioned to Allstar Plastering Company, LLC in 2010 and with Ricardo and Venesa’s assistance we are still going strong. We pray all the best for the Villarreal and Pamuk families.
